Oversized Screen Printing

One of the most impressive types of silk screen printing is Oversized Screen Printing.  With no strict definition of what exactly “Oversized” means, it is generally accepted that Oversized Screen Printing is defined by any print that can extend the entire length of the shirt from the bottom hem to the neck and onto the sleeves.

Oversized Screen Printing

Some people will mistake Oversized Screen Printing for Custom Dye Sublimation Printing, the two technologies are vastly different.

With custom dye sublimation printing, specialized inks, printers and industrial heat and pressure are used to create a precision dying method to decorate a garment in 360 degrees.  Most custom dye sublimation is done in a cut and sew environment but it can be accomplished on already sewn garments with a high degree of success.

Oversized Screen Printing is not custom dye sublimation, but rather traditional screen printing, but supersized.  Specialized jumbo screen printing presses and jumbo screens are created to provide superior all-over-shirt coverage.  Standard screen printing inks are used, regular garments are used, it’s the equipment that gets bigger to accommodate an all over print.

Most screen printing shops will promote their large printing sizes, but be careful when selecting and all over print provider to ensure that you specific print dimensions are being met.  Most screen printers do not have the same capabilities as AMBRO Manufacturing, a true seam to seam screen printing partner.

Printing in an Oversized Screen Printing scenario can lead to some challenges of matching seams, especially when wrapping a print around from the front to the back of a T-Shirt.  When working with experienced Jumbo Screen Printing companies like AMBRO Manufacturing, you can rest at ease that your Jumbo Screen Printing job will be done properly the first time.

Silk Screen Printing

The process of taking specialized plastisol based inks, and applying them through a mesh onto fabric, textiles or garments is called Silk Screen Printing.

Screen Printing has been around for a long time but improvements continue to be made each year.  New technologies and advancements help Contract Screen Printing companies like AMBRO Manufacturing to provide high quality Screen Printing services with short turn around times.

Mostly automated, Screen Printing still requires human beings to produce work.  Today’s modern Screen Printing automation is the proper blend of machinery and people.

Silk Screen Printing

The process of Screen Printing involves a screen printing press, silk screens, plastisol based inks, and experience.  Designs are burned into the screens using special UV Light and coatings.  Once rinsed and dried, the screens are loaded on an industrial Screen Printing press, registered and loaded with inks.

Each station on the printing press represents one color of the design and have to be placed on the garment in the appropriate order for the design elements to look as intended.

Screen Printing can be accomplished at home, on manual stations and even with your bear hands, but large scale production of T-Shirts and other garments require significant equipment and space.

Screen Printing is offered in two basic forms.  The first form is standard screen printing that will typically allow for a print area of 16” x 20” and then there is Jumbo Screen Printing or Oversized Screen Printing that is typically 40” x 36” or more.

Depending on the design elements of the project, one of the two forms of Silk Screen Printing will work for the desired result.  If neither option works for the project, then Custom Dye Sublimation might be the best option.
