It doesn’t apply layers of colored inks like screen printing would, but instead the entire image is transferred in one motion. A sublimation printer is used to print out specialized dye onto a sheet of heat resistant paper. The print out is placed onto the fabric to be printed and both are put into a sublimation press. The press applies high heat and pressure over a short period of time which causes the dye on the paper to be released as a gas and absorbed by the material below.
