Discharge Printer

Do you need a custom discharge printer for your garments?  Are you even familiar with what a discharge printer might do?  Well if you are interested in creating your own custom garments, you might want to stick around to find out!  Discharge printing is a type of screen printing that uses a special formulation of water based ink to apply custom designs to cotton fabrics.  It’s just like other types of screen printing, meaning it uses screens like stencils to apply ink to the surface of a garment, but the ink is the major difference!  Discharge inks are simply water based inks with an added discharge agent, but it makes quite the difference.

What’s the purpose of the discharge agent?  Well normally if you use plastisol inks on a dark garment and you want a bright and vivid print, you need to print a layer of white underneath to enhance the colors that will be printed on top of it.  With a discharge ink you can remove the existing color from your garment while depositing the desired color at the same time.  Since it’s a water based ink, it’s much softer than plastisol inks so this type of printing is perfect for lightweight fabrics or prints with all over coverage.

Water Based Screen Printing Techniques

How much do you know about your custom screen printing?  Do you know that there are different types of inks?  Depending on the kind of fabric you are printing on and the kind of design you’d like to see on the garment there could be different techniques that need to be employed to produce the desired result.  Let’s take water based screen printing techniques for example.  Water based inks are a type of ink that contains a solvent, which is typically water, that evaporates leaving the pigment behind.

Water Based Screen Printing Techniques

You can use water based inks to print directly onto the garment, but that’s not all you can do.  One of the water based screen printing techniques that is very popular is to use a discharge agent in your water based ink.  By adding a discharge agent to the ink, you can actually remove the existing color from a garment!  In screen printing you need a layer of white under any colors that you want to pop on colored shirts which translates to more ink that needs to be on the shirt.  With discharge inks you can forgo the white base layer because the discharge agent will return the shirt to its undyed, natural color while depositing the desired color on top.

Discharge printing sounds too good to be true, but it really works!  So if you are interested in exploring water based screen printing techniques and how they can impact your custom designs, why don’t you check us out at AMBRO Manufacturing?  AMBRO Manufacturing is a contract apparel customization company so we have many different kinds of garment decoration services for you to take advantage of!  You can easily contact us to place an order, or to find out more about our company and all of the services we have to offer, by email or by giving us a call at (908) 806-8337.
